What are we looking for?
For the majority of roles candidates will need to have a good degree in a technical discipline and be able to demonstrate a strong interest in working in a career in IT.
As well as your academics we are equally interested in the skills you have picked up through other experiences. Relevant work placements are always of interest to us. However, we recognise that travel, voluntary work, positions of responsibility at school or university, can also teach you valuable skills. Perhaps you had to manage a complicated itinerary while backpacking, gained team-building skills on a voluntary project or dealt with difficult customers while working in a bar or shop.
We will be looking for evidence of soft skills such as teamwork, problem solving, relationship management, adaptability, commercial awareness, self-awareness, professionalism and creativity.
Selection process
There are various stages in our recruitment process, but these are amended according to the requirements of the vacancy:
1. Application selection
We look at the whole application, including qualifications and experience. Our application form is designed to guide you though the things we are looking for. We have tried to make it as user friendly as possible, by allowing you to save your work halfway through and log in later, to print out the form and to show you how many words you have left in each section as you progress through it.
2. Aptitude tests (not required for all roles)
We use different tests according to which part of the business you are applying. For some roles within Systems Integration, we use a programming aptitude test, whereas for some roles within Managed Operations, we use a logic test. Most tests can be taken online but can only be taken once in each recruitment cycle.
3. Telephone interview
These usually last about 30 minutes and are arranged at a time to suit you. Our interviewers will call you at a pre-arranged time and talk through your experience to date and your career aspirations. We will be looking for a clear commitment both to the company, as well as evidence of some of our key competencies. There will be the opportunity for you to ask questions at the end of the interview.
4. Selection days
This is the final stage of the recruitment process and the most thorough. We invite you to spend a day with us at one of our sites, along with between five and ten other candidates. There are various different elements to the selection day, however the process is amended according to the vacancy.
For the majority of selection days you will start with a group exercise where you will discuss a business case study in a group. A team of assessors will observe you in action and will be looking at how you work in a group, how you manage the time and how you approach the challenge that you have been set.
You will also have an interview, during which you will be required to deliver a presentation that you have prepared on the day.
In addition you may be required to take an aptitude test, relevant to the role.
Finally there will be plenty of opportunities for you to chat to Atos Origin employees, from Managers down to recent graduates, to help you find out what it’s really like to work here and if this is the company for you.
Decisions….
We inform candidates whether they have been successful approximately one to two weeks after the selection day. We also offer feedback to all candidates on their performance on the day. We either do this at the time we inform you of your decision or we can arrange a time to go through this at a later time – whichever you prefer.
