Nick Woodbridge’s last minute call-up to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing came on his 22nd birthday when he was awarded the final qualification place for the sport of modern pentathlon.
Woodbridge, who grew up in Telford but now trains at the high-performance centre in Bath, showed early promise by becoming World Youth Champion in 2004 and then in 2006 secured a top-20 senior World Championship finish while still technically a junior.
He won both Great Britain selection competitions in Bath in December 2007 and January 2008 and Nick joins three of his team mates in the discipline to ensure Team GB will have the maximum complement of four pentathletes at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Nick was selected by Georgina Harland, bronze medal winner in the Modern Pentathlon at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, to join the Atos Origin ‘Champion and Challengers’ scheme in 2005.
