Identity Management

The changing nature of society has led to a demand for innovative IT solutions that enable individuals to prove and protect their identity whenever they need to, whether in person or when accessing remote services online.

Atos Origin plays a key role in the development of secure identity management technologies, including biometrics that could assist the introduction of a national ID card programme in the UK.

National ID cards

The introduction of a UK national ID card scheme is being progressed as an inclusive way to safeguard all citizens and organisations from identity-related fraud, crime and subversion. Failure to implement an all-inclusive programme could lead to the growth of fragmented, expensive and potentially divisive identity solutions that may be out of reach of some social groups. Therefore it is important to develop a standardised and secure basic identifier, which is accessible to all as a foundation for continued social and economic development.

Biometric data

Atos Origin is experienced in the development of biometric technology and was involved in a trial to use a biometric system for passports, testing the business processes required to obtain the biometric information. During the trial, multiple biometrics were recorded – iris, fingers and face – and integrated into one solution.

Electronic voting

One of the main barriers to the introduction of electronic voting is the ability to ensure that people aren’t able to vote more than once.  The introduction of an ID card scheme could address this key problem, guaranteeing one person one vote, and  making the act of voting more convenient and accessible for many people.
