By working with the police and the government’s Criminal Justice IT (CJIT) unit, Atos Origin is helping to deliver joined-up justice and facilitate IT-enabled business change.
The major challenges facing the UK criminal justice system are focused on the need to link business processes and IT systems to streamline and accelerate access to shared information while protecting data integrity.
Shaping the future of criminal justice IT
We believe that within the criminal justice system, IT-enabled change needs to provide:
- Fast, effective channels to enable criminal justice organisations to talk to, and work with, each other, for example, the CJIT’s programme for case management and secure email
- Case information that reaches the right agency at the right time, speeding up the process and helping to reduce the number and cost of cracked trials
- A system that is more transparent to the citizen, especially to victims and witnesses of crime.
Shared access to information
Shared access to criminal intelligence is increasingly seen as an imperative for delivering an effective criminal justice system in the UK. Critical to success or failure is the quality of the information available, in terms of its consistency, accuracy and accessibility. Atos Origin has developed a pragmatic approach to the challenge of aggregating local criminal justice data for analysis on a national scale, working with leading technology partners to build a solid track record of successful delivery.
Safeguarding data quality
When sharing data across multiple agencies, there is a need for high levels of data quality and different access requirements. It is increasingly recognised that data needs to be cleansed and frequently transformed into formats that facilitate sharing with other agencies.
We are highly focused on working with the police community to address the challenge of data integrity. In addition, we are working with police forces to help them meet demand for the information systems that will be required to support extensive long-term changes in their approach to sharing information.
Atos Origin is committed to building management and technology solutions that:
- Transform the criminal justice operations required to deliver efficiencies through process improvement within and across agencies
- Structure and manage change programmes, helping to rationalise and integrate the many initiatives vying for priority and resource
- Make information and services more readily available and accessible to the public
- Release resources to the front line, to deliver efficiency savings for investment into a more effective system.
